Before Friday’s game, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese downplayed the Rookie of the Year race, focusing instead on their teams' playoff aspirations.
“Both of our teams are competing for playoff spots, and that’s our main focus,” Clark stated.
Reese added, “I think you guys have made it a big thing.”
However, Clark’s stellar performance suggests the Rookie of the Year race might be more significant than either player claims.
Clark delivered a season-high 31 points as the Indiana Fever (16-16) routed the Chicago Sky 100-81, extending their impressive form since the Olympic break to five wins in six games. They won the season series against the Sky, 3-1.
Clark shot 8 of 14 from the field, including 5 of 9 from three-point range, and 10 of 11 from the free-throw line. She also recorded 12 assists and three turnovers in 32 minutes. Since the break, Clark has been averaging 24 points and 8.5 assists per game.
